My story

This Christian Aid Week, we are supporting families facing hunger and hardship in the city of Nairobi, Kenya. Homes are densely packed with poor sanitation and limited clean water and electricity, and jobs are extremely scarce and poorly paid.  Buying food is a struggle and many often go hungry.

But parents like Fridah are being helped through Christian Aid's local partners to grow food crops such as kale, tomatoes and indigenous vegetables in tiny spaces to feed their children and make a small but reliable income by selling the surplus. They are given training in farming, taught innovative techniques such as vertical planting and growing without soil and provided with tools and seeds to use their new urban farming skills. These women gain confidence as they provide for their families, and hope for the future.

Please give what you can this Christian Aid Week.

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
