My story

In May, I’m taking on cycling '70k in May' along the Antrim Coast Road to raise funds for Christian Aid and support families facing hunger.

This year, Christian Aid's headline project is 'Beacon of Hope' working in Dagoretti, a sprawling neighbourhood in Nairobi where almost 300,000 people live in makeshift housing. With secure jobs hard to find, food prices rising and most people earning less than a dollar a day, life is a constant struggle. With tools, seeds and specialist training, parents like Fridah are overcoming poverty by growing food in small spaces and alleyways, so their children don’t go without. Fridah says 'Urban farming has changed my life'. Her steady supply of fresh produce helps to feed her family and the surplus is sold on her market stall to produce an income. Fridah's urban farm holds her children's dreams for a brighter future.

Please support my challenge this Christian Aid Week.

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
